ctru-exterior-lrgThe Clinical Trials Research Unit (CTRU) is part of Auckland University, New Zealand's largest research-led academic institution.  The CTRU is located on the University's new multi-million Tamaki Campus in Auckland and forms part of the University's School of Population Health.

Funded by governemt, multi-national pharmaceuticals and a number of other sources, the CTRU's research programmes focus on investigating the causes, prevention and treatment of cardiovascular disease and other major health problems. Established in 1989, the CTRU has co-ordinated clinical trials involving tens of thousands of people in Australasia, Asia and Europe.

Clinical Trials Research Unit Interior, Tamaki CampusThe Unit has undertaken pivotal trials in research projects involving up to $30 million investment in collaboration with health ministries and leading commercial pharmaceutical companies including Servier, Bristol Myers Squibb and Hoechst AG. In undertaking these projects, the CTRU has established an international reputation for high quality, large-scale trials and population-based cohort and case-control studies.

As well as clinical trials, the CTRU performs specialist health research involving studies of the causes of disease. Research themes include investigator-initiated studies, collaboration with other research groups both nationally and internationally and focus on affordable, practicable interventions.
